Smartmoves tutor is a proponent of structured literacy and has over ninety-seven hours of training in the Orton-Gillingham approach. What is this OG approach and why is it important?
Research indicates that many students are reading at a basic or below basic level and these approaches have been highly effective in helping students improve in their reading skills. Interested in learning more about this research-based approach? If so, please refer to the Orton-Gillingham Academy Website: https://www.ortonacademy.org/ Additionally, Dr. Phil, recently interviewed a teacher and principal who are advocating for this approach in the schools. After we set up an initial consult and evaluation (assessment), we will discuss the best plan of action for your child. My sessions do often follow an Orton-Gillingham approach, that is systematic, explicit, direct-instruction, diagnostic, prescriptive, multi-sensory and is highly individualized. Each lesson is carefully planned and based-upon the student's assessment and previous reading and spelling errors. Students will explore phonics, phonemic awareness, reading and spelling activities and practice fluent reading and comprehension strategies. For older students, prefixes and suffixes, word roots and word origins can be incorporated into our sessions.
Tutoring offers significant benefits for elementary K–6 students by providing personalized instruction that supports their unique learning needs. In a one-on-one or small group setting, students receive targeted help that can reinforce classroom learning, clarify difficult concepts, and build foundational skills in reading, writing, and math. Tutoring also boosts confidence and motivation by allowing students to experience success at their own pace, which is especially important during the formative years of education. Additionally, tutors can help instill effective study habits, organizational skills, and a positive attitude toward learning that can benefit students throughout their academic journey. For children who are struggling or those who want to excel, tutoring can be a valuable tool for academic growth and self-esteem. (Chat GPT)
Yes I can tutor your child in your home, via ZOOM or at another quiet location of your choice such as a library, available school classroom or other location.
Currently, I am able hold sessions in your home, on some campuses, and am actively scouting for rooms or office spaces within the community.
Often sessions are held in the afternoons on weekdays or on Saturdays.
I prefer that you not be in close contact due to possible distractions, but feel free to be nearby.
